Dianne Ryan has been a free-lance bassoonist in the Chicago area since 1983. After earning Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Virginia Tech and Roosevelt University’s Chicago Musical College, respectively, in bassoon performance, she spent a year studying orchestral playing with the Chicago Civic Orchestra.

Ms. Ryan is principal bassoonist with New Philharmonic, Elmhurst Symphony and Light Opera Works and performs frequently with many other Chicago area orchestras, including Illinois Philharmonic, Northbrook Symphony, NW Michigan Symphony, Rockford Symphony, Chicago Chamber Orchestra, Elgin Symphony, and South Bend (IN) Symphony. She has toured Europe and Asia with Chicago Chamber Orchestra and Chicago Symphonic Pops and has performed with many popular artists such as Mel Torme, the Moody Blues, Ray Charles, the Beach Boys, Final Fantasy, Three Irish Tenors and Celtic Woman. She can be heard on several recordings and has appeared as a featured soloist with New Philharmonic and Elmhurst Symphony.

Ms. Ryan has been on the faculties of Elmhurst College, Merit School of Music, Concordia University River Forest, VanderCook College of Music, Trinity International University and Lake Forest College. She is the founder of the popular “Bassoon Boot Camp” for young bassoonists. Ms. Ryan enjoys giving clinics around the United States, including the national Bands of America Summer Symposium, Butler University Bassoon Day and Roanoke (VA) Symphony Youth Camp.
